It seems appropriate that the Journal of Clinical Ultrasound, starting its career in the Denver area, should dedicate its first issue to Dr. Douglass Howry, one of the pioneers in the development of diagnostic ultrasound. Dr. Howry made his major contributions t o this field while working in the Denver area. His many contributions to the development of compund B-mode scanning form the basis of our current ultrasonic diagnostic equipment and made possible the many diagnostic applications of diagnostic ultrasound throughout the world.
