✦ Synopsis
The infrared multiphoton excitation of CFJ by CO1 laser radiation between 1068 and 1082 cm-' (9R4 to 9R26 lines) is monitored under collision-free conditions by (2 + 1) resonanceznhanced multiphoton ionization through the C state. The vibrational levels populated are measured as a function of infrared laser frequency. The vibrational level resonant at the first absorption step is seen only partially to determine which higher combinations are populated. Population of vibrational levels up to four times the infrared photon energy is seen, with no discernible transitions from levels with a higher vibrational energy. The results are consistent with previous repor& of bimodal energy distributions in C&I.
