Irreducible dorsal dislocation of the metatarsophalangeal joint of the hallux is a rare injury. A case is presented and the literature is reviewed, with emphasis on pathomechanics and treatment alternatives.

โฆ Synopsis
We report 3 cases of dorsal dislocation of the first metatarsophalangeal joint treated by closed reduction. Associated dislocation of the sesamoid complex may make reduction difficult. We suggest a modification of Jahss's classification and have confirmed our findings in amputation specimens.

Nous prgsentons trois nouveaux cas de luxation dorsale de l'articulation mgtatarso-phalangienne du premier orteil, appartenant aux trois types ddcrits par Jahss (I, II-A et H-B), avec la particulartitg d'avoir obtenu la r6duction it foyer fermg dans tous les cas. Nous soulignons l'importance de la luxation associge des sg-samoMes en tant que facteur d'irrgductibilitg et nous proposons de modifier la classification de
