Double Ytides, VII') Synthesis, Properties, and Structure Determination of the Boranato-bis(dimethy1phosphouium metbylide) Complexes of Nickel, Palladium, and Platinum [(CH,),P],BH;Br-has been metalled with two equivalents of C,H,Li and treated in situ with '/, equivalent of [(CH,),P],MCl,, M = Ni, Pd, Pt, to form the title complexes 1 -3. These products are novel homoleptic organometallic compounds of the composition H,B[(CH,),PCH,],M[CH,P(CH,),I,BH,. They were characterized by chemical analysis, infrared, mass, and 'H, I'B, I3C, 31P NMR spectroscopic data. The crystal and molecular structure of the nickel compound 1 was elucidated by a single crystal X-ray diffraction study. It was found to be centro-symmetric, having a square-planar array of CH,-carbon atoms around the metal centre, and a chair conformation for both six-membered chelate rings. The four PB bonds are equidistant, as are the four NiC and PC bonds.
