The fluorination of highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG), powdery and flaky natural graphites, and carbon fiber (P 100) has been performed in a fluorine atmosphere with HF gas (5.3 x 103-4.8 x lo4 Pa), or by flowing fluorine gas in anhydrous liquid hydrogen fluoride (AHF) at ambient temperature

β¦ Synopsis
The rotational tunnelling spectrum of hydrogen molecules adsorbed in the ternary intercalate C&S(H~)~ reveals the presence of at least four sorption sites whose occupancy changes with the degree of filling. The striking changes in the tunnelling spectrum at high filling are explained by the mobility of the caesium ions at 77 K and a reconstruction of the layer lattice.
