โœฆ Synopsis

APPROACHING THE FlNAL year of my second three-year term as Editor-in-Chief of JMRI, I wanted to review the performance of the journal by referring to the original goals of the Editorial Board to decide if a course change is warranted. The environment has changed dramatically over the past 5 years. The Society of MagnetL Resonance Imaging that founded JMRI merged with the Socfety of Magnetlc Resonance L n Medlcfne in 1994 to form the Society of Magneflc Resonance. Members of the new merged Society rose up in 1995 to rename the merged association the "International SocieQ d m q n e t i c Resonance in Medicine" (ISMRM) to better define their self-image. MRI in the USA has gone from boom to near bust while international performance has burgeoned to take up the slack. As the dust settles from this whirlwind of change. the Editorial Board discussed. argued about, and finally agreed upon the following statement:

The Journal 4f Magnetic Resonance Imaging (Jlmul documents contributions of physicians. basic scientists. allied health professionals. and industry toward advancing basic science in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). developing MRI technology and techniques for medicine. evaluating MRI for medical applications. and performing clinical studies using MRI.
