✦ Synopsis
State-to-state branching ratios are reported for vibrational energy transfer (VET) from the 8' and 7'8' levels in S, pdifluorobenzene by He and H2 in a supersonic free jet expansion. 8' is in the sparse region of the vibrational manifold (I&= 350 cm-'; p,,=O.OS states / cm-') while 7'8' is in the intermediate state density region (&,=751 cm-';p,+0.4 states / cm-'). Two principal results emerge: (i) the propensity rules that apply for 8' (sparse region) are not followed for 7'8' (intermediate region) and (ii) He and Hz show virtually identical state-to-state branching ratios for 82 but not for 7'8'.
