β¦ Synopsis
The purpose of this study is to investigate the motifs of divine war in the ancient Near East and in this light to research the motifs of YHWH war in the Old Testament. There are three issues concerning the problem of YHWH war. The first issue is the distinction between holy war and YHWH war. The main argument concerning YHWH war has been focused under the name of "holy war" by F. Schwally, M. Weber, J. Pedersen and especially G. von Rad. The second issue is the distinction between the mythical and historical realities of YHWH war. The third issue is the possible connection between YHWH war in the Old Testament and divine war in the ancient Near East.
