✦ Synopsis

Abstract

This article presents an experimental investigation on the diversity performance of a reconfigurable antenna integrating a SPDT for polarization switching. The antenna is characterized in terms of its envelope correlation factor, mean effective gain, and diversity gain (DG) in a multipath indoor environment. The influence of the antenna placement and orientation is emphasized. Low correlation factors and large DGs are observed making this device highly performing for indoor wireless communication systems. Β© 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. ## Abstract This study investigates the performance of planar fixed and/or pattern reconfigurable antennas on a model laptop in terms of diversity gain and spatial coverage. The reconfigurable antenna used in this work has the ability to change its radiation pattern from endfire to broadside while
