Fictitious cases of

Vietnam-related post-rraumatic

stress disorder (PTSD) present a dqficult diagnostic problem. In settings where [he motives of avoiding criminal responsibility or gaining financially are apparent, rhe clinician is alerted to possible ficlitious cases. But there are a variefy of other reasons for fictitious presentation of PTSD that the clinician needs to consider. These other reasons include pJychotic disorders, concealing other behavior, gaining special attention in a Vietnam veteran PTSD role, explaining and coveririg up a dysfunctional life, and factitious disorder. Case examples are presenred of rhese various fictitious presentations of post-Metnam PTSD.
