✦ Synopsis

Are diuretics helpful in the treatment of acute renal failure in critically ill patients?

BOTTOM LINE

Diuretics were not helpful and may be harmful in the treatment of ARF. Harm could be a result of direct nephrotoxicity or a delay in starting dialysis. Findings from observational trials such as this one may subsequently be disproved or confirmed in prospective RCTs. This study should clear the path for someone to clearly answer this important question.
