The major diterpene constituents of the marine sponge Chelonaplysilla violacea have been shown to be aplyviolene (1) and aplyviolacene (2). Chelonaplysilla violacea is a purple encrusting sponge found in shallow waters off the coast of temperate eastern Australia. In the course of a survey' of chem
