Abstract

The adsorption characteristics of four surfactants were studied: sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), hexadecyl trimethylammonium bromide (HTAB), hexadecyl pyridinium chloride (HPCI) and ethoxylated nonyl phenol containing 10 segments of ethylene oxide (NP10) in poly(2‐ethyl hexyl methacrylate) (P2EHMA) latexes. Areas per molecule at the particle‐water interface (at the critical micellar concentration) were determined as well as the compacities of the adsorbed layers and the Helmholtz free energies of adsorption (Δμ°). The order of increasing Δμ° is NP10
