## Abstract Intracellular Na^+^ concentration ([Na^+^]~i~) is very important in modulating the contractile and electrical activity of the heart. Upon electrical excitation of the myocardium, voltage‐dependent Na^+^ channels open, triggering the upstroke of the action potential (AP). During the AP,
