✦ Synopsis

This paper describes the distribution of cholinesterase in the rhinencephalon of a macrosmatic rodent which had not been investigated previously. A detailed description is given of the arrangement of stained elements in the basal rhinencephalon and this is compared to the cytoarchitectonic arrangement revealed by the classical neurohistological methods. The basic pattern of staining in the coypu is similar to other macrosmatic mammals; points of difference are discussed. The effect of varying the incubation time and other factors are described and discussed fully. It is concluded that cholinesterasecontaining fibers are in general better developed in older parts of the brain.
