## Abstract The impact of employing a hybrid Raman/Erbiumโdoped fiber amplifier (EDFA) in a transmission system is demonstrated by considering the optical signalโtoโnoise ratio (OSNR) performance. The gain flatness of hybrid Raman/EDFA is maintained below 1.2 dB from 1530 to 1565 nm through careful

โฆ Synopsis
Abstract
A distributed hybridโfiber Raman amplifier with a 25โkm singleโmode fiber and a section of nonlinear microstructured optical fiber (NMOF) is proposed and experimentally investigated in detail. Three pump schemes and span configurations, as well as two NMOF types with different parameters and length were considered. The influence of the NMOF presence on the performance of the amplifier was analyzed. ยฉ 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
