This invention relates to a seal to be used with a trocar for introducing surgical instruments, guidewires, dilators, catheters or similar instruments into a patient. The seal is in a closed, or sealed, position when no instrument is inserted in the seal, when the seal is in an unstressed condition. It is opened when an instrument is inserted in the seal.
