✦ Synopsis

Tnnabove paperconcexnsthe measwem ent of heat-transfer CoefRcients in a fluid&d bed of wet silica gel particles. Reference ia made to similar work by KETI'ENEING, MANDERFIELD, and SMITE (Ckm. Eng. PtogtGss 1960 46 18Q) and to heat transfer from air to coal without drying by WALToN, OL8EN, and LEVENSPIEL (Ituf. En& Chmr. 1962 44 1474). Apparently the authors were unaware of the work by the writer and colleague (WUSLSY and JO-ON, Chem. Eng. Progreaa 1954 S8 847) in which heat-transfer coef8cients from gas to fluidized solid were obtained using an unsteady-state technique, and ln which the results of Knrrx~nr~o, MANDE~FIJZLD, and S~rrn were exteneively

The determination of the partial coefficient of heat transfer from air to a drying fluidized mass of silicagel is given. The data obtained can be correlated by means of the equation h = 1.32 (R)"'re. A comparison of the external and internal heat exchange in a fluidized mass is presented.

## Abstract Knowledge of heat transfer coefficients is important in the design and operation of CFB boilers. It is the key to determining the area and the layout of the heat transfer surfaces in a CFB furnace. Local bulk density has a close relationship to the local heat transfer coefficient. Using

Local instantaneous temperature signal and time-averaged heat transfer coefficient were measured using a miniature heat transfer probe. The experiments were carried out in the bottom zone of a 5.8 m high, 0.3 m  0.5 m rectangular cross-section circulating fluidized bed. The results show that the he
