✦ Synopsis

In 1,3-dimethyl-2-imidazolidinone (DMEU) as solvent, pentafluoropyridine reacts with PhSNa to give an essentially quantitative yield of pentakis(phenylthio)pyridine (l_); however, analogous reaction with pentachloropyridine leads to the unexpected co-formation of the title compound (a), a new host whose crystal structure has been elucidated by X-ray methods for both the unsolvated crystal and for the chlorobenzene inclusion compound.

We have recently shown that hexakis(arylthio)benzenes,' hexakis(aryloxy)benzenes, 2 and octakis(arylthio)naphthalenes, 3,4 classes of molecule of great

We report the synthesis and X-ray crystal structure of 1,4-dihydro-2,6-dimethyl-4-(2'isopropylphenyl)-3,5-pyridine-dicarboxylic acid dimethyl ester (4), an analogue of the 1,4dihydropyridine calcium channel antagonist, nifedipine. Solution state NOE data indicate the presence of both rotameric forms
