Let D R 2 be the open unit disk. We consider best harmonic approximation to functions continuous on D . In a basic paper, Hayman et al. characterized best harmonic approximants which are themselves continuous on D . In this paper we give sufficient conditions and many simple examples of functions continuous on D which have no best harmonic approximants which are continuous on D .
