✦ Synopsis

This paper examines the facts and fallacies of disclosing medical error, drawing from both peer-reviewed medical literature and the mainstream press. By understanding the evidence that supports disclosure of medical errors, risk managers can better assist their organizations in the development of systems and processes for exchange of information both within the organization and with patients. This will ultimately enable healthcare organizations to reduce and prevent errors, thereby better serving patients and the community.
