## Abstract Alkyl 2โ€nitroethanoates react with alkyl propiolates in the presence of triphenylphosphine (Ph~3~P) in a mechanistically unprecedented reaction to afford tetraalkyl benzeneโ€1,2,3,5โ€tetracarboxylates in moderate yields (36โ€“42%).
