✦ Synopsis

A direct solution is proposed to an optimal control problem of linear econometric systems with a quadratic welfare loss function when there are linear equality constraints on the control variables. The direct solution proposed here eliminates the problem of non-uniqueness of the optimal solution, which is present when this optimal control problem is solved using the recursive algorithm proposed by Chow,' Pindyck2 and Tan.3 If a unique solution to the optimal control problem exists, then the direct solbtion and the recursive solution coincide.

## Abstract A polynomial matrix solution to the H~2~ output feedback optimal control problems is obtained for systems represented in state‐equation form. The proof does not invoke the separation principle but is obtained in the __z__‐domain. The cost function includes weighted states, which allows

The optimal control of a class of linear deterministic time-invariant multi-dimensional distributed systems is considered. The unconstrained optimal control problem is formulated as a quadratic minimisation in a real Hilbert space. A conjugate gradient minimisation technique is employed in its solut

This paper presents the extended penalty function method for solving constrained optimal control problems. Here, equality and inequality constraints on the state and control variables are considered. Using the extended penalty function method, the original constrained optimal control problem is tran
