✦ Synopsis
In this paper the direct computation of the ply thickness for laminated rectangular plates, for which Kirchhoff plate theory would predict the fundmental frequency within the specified degree of accuracy, has been considered. The standard result for comparison has been taken to be that predicted by parabolic shear deformation theory. It is assumed that the elastic properties of the plate material and the permissible or tolerable error in the frequency of the Kirchhoff theory are known quantities. The perturbation technique, taking the thickness to length ratio as the perturbation parameter, has been followed to obtain the equation that gives the thickness value of the plate.
