Abstract
The reaction B(NCS)~4~^โ^ + BX~4~^โ^ (X = F, Cl, Br) leads to mixed BX~n~(NCS) (n = 1, 2, 3) species easily detected in solution by ^11^B NMR. Further, with X = Cl, ^1^J(^11^B, ^14^N) values could be measured from the ^11^B NMR spectra (25.6, 24.5 and 21.4 Hz for n = 3, 2 and 1, respectively). For X = F, the relevant ^1^J(^11^B, ^14^N) values (24.3, 25.2 and 28 Hz for n = 3, 2 and 1, respectively) increase in the same order as the related ^1^J(^11^B, ^19^F) (5.5, 12.7 and 20.0 Hz, respectively). No such ^1^J(^11^B, ^14^N) could be resolved for X = Br.
