โฆ Synopsis
We report here the direct observation in an optical experiment of what is most likely a triplet state higher in energy than Tl and the inteinal conversion of this excited state to T1. Kn a solution of 4-(1 -naphthylmethyijbenzophenone in benzene " we observe a'tw6 component transient abskption at 5300 A, &king the 2nc and 3rd harmonics from a mode-locked Nd3+/ glass laser. Thejnitial absorption persists with a lifetime of 10 ps accompnnied by the development of a much weaker absorption tihich does not decay during the time of our experiment. These two absorptions are attributed respectively to transi-'.
