โœฆ Synopsis

The viscosily or a shock-loaded liquid has been measured directly for the firs1 [ime using a laser-induced fluorescence probe wchniqus. A guest molecule. ctys~al violer. was added 10 glycerol and the solulion shocked IO 19 kbar using a laser generalion scheme. The GscosiIy was eslimnwd rrom its eCCecr on the s~rsak camera measursd lluorssccnce liretimc following 527 nm excimtion. Viscosi1ics varied rrom 12 P al nmbienl prsssurc IO 57 P al 19 kbar. Lirclimes varied from 100 IO 260 ps. Comparison of our data with high-pressure sralic mrasurements allows an cslimare or Ihr ring-up shock lcmperalurc as well. Al-1 1.5 kbar. a Iemperawrc rise of 52ยฐC above ambient is observed.
