✦ Synopsis

Time-resolved kinetic studies of CH(

A'A), following formation by ultraviolet multiphoton escitation of (CH&CO and CH&, are reported. Absolute rate constants (300 K) for removal of CH(A'A) by Ha. 02 and CH4 are determined as (8.5 * 0-4)X lo-l2 (1 10 * 0.04)~ lo-l1 and (2.0 + 0.1)X lo-l1 cm3 molecule-' s-l 7 respectively_ In ez~cb czise the note constant for removal o;&(A 2A) is less than that for the ground electronic state. CH(X2n).

An experimental method based on the detection of the enhancement of chemi-ionization following the pulsed laser excitation of CH\*(A \*A, B 'Z-) radicals is described. This approach provides conclusive and direct obserwtions of chemiionization reactions involving Cil\*(A 2~, B',r-) radicals. The re
