✦ Synopsis

Angular and internal state distributions are reported for NO molecules scattered from cleaved, single-crystal MgO( 100) at several kinetic energies: 0.56 < KE 6 0.90 eV, and surface temperatures; 300 6 T,g 760 K. Rotational distributions can be characterized by low-and highJ"Boltzmann-like" components. When T,= 760 K, a pronounced increase in the highJexcitation was observed.NO(~"=1)wasundetectable([v"=1]/[v"=O]i5X10-3)atKE=0.76eVandT,=540K.
