✦ Synopsis
A polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay was used to amplify human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) directly from urine specimens taken from renal transplant patients. In serial urine yields a more consistent measure of the presence of HCMV in the urine of renal transplant patients than virus isolation, antigen detection, or nucleic acid hybridization assay.
