✦ Synopsis

The Direct Fuel CellTM concept pioneered by Energy Research Corporation combines hydrocarbon reforming with fuel cell reaction to attain system simplicity, high efficiency and excellent thermal management. Beginning with 40 W laboratory-scale cells in the 198Os, the concept has been shown to be operable in a 2 MW system. Cost-effective commercial design cells producing almost 1 kW in a single cell are being tested in a building-block 250 kW stack, and the technology is now ready for field trials in sub-MW and h4W stationary power applications.
