โฆ Synopsis
The dipole moments of ten molecular complexes formed by iodine and aromatic amines were measured by the method proposed by Kobinata and Nagakura. The experimental values were of the same order of magnitude as those previously reported for recognised n-o complexes. The dipole moments of the complexes were found to vary with the electron-releasing power of the ring substituent in the donor molecule. Steric effects were indicated for the complexes formed by iodine with 2,5-and 2,Gdimethylaniline. The experimental values of the dipole moments were compared with those calculated by an original perturbation method and satisfactory agreement was found.
