โœฆ Synopsis

Expressions are derived for t h e m o m e n t s of electric a n d m a g n e t i c dipoles whose rar field is e q u i v a l e n t to t h e Rayleigh t e r m in t h e rar field of a given r a d i a t i n g electromagnetic field. T h e e q u i v a l e n t dipole m o m e n t s are expressed as integrals over a n a r b i t r a r y closed surface of t h e near electrom a g n e t i c fields a n d simplification is achieved b y rewriting these expressions in t e r m s of t h e static p o t e n t i a l s from which t h e near fields are derived. The results are valid regardless of t h e c o m p l e x i t y of t h e field a n d t h e m e d i u m w i t h i n t h e i n t e g r a t i o n surface as long as t h e exterior is homogeneous, isotropic a n d source-free.

A theoretical study of the spectroscopy of HOBr and its deuterated isotopomer is presented. Highly accurate ab initio potential energy and dipole moment surfaces have been determined at the multireference configuration interaction level of theory, with large triple-~" quality basis sets. From the an
