Abstract
The usual equations for the transfer of heat and water vapour to and from a drop of salt solution in an atmosphere with which the drop is not in equilibrium involve the relative humidity of the atmosphere, the drop size, the mass of the salt nucleus and various physical characteristics of air and water which depend upon temperature. Generally an explicit solution of the equations is not possible and, if more than one set of circumstances are to be considered, considerable labour may be involved in obtaining numerical solutions. The following paragraphs indicate a convenient way of manipulating the equations so that the effects of different temperatures and different salt nucleus masses may be allowed for by means of a simple multiplying factor.
