โฆ Synopsis
The objective of this study is the design of catalysts for which dilution enhances the overall rate. A theoretical treatment of such catalysts where the active medium and the diluent are microporous is carried out; the theory is easily extended to cases where the active medium or diluent is non-porous. The model developed is particularly applicable to the design of diluted zeolite based catalyst pellets and suggests quantitatively rigorous and non-obvious criteria for determining the advisability of dilution in enhancing catalyst performance. The performance of a diluted pellet during deactivation is also discussed. KEYWORDS Catalyst design; zeolite catalysis; bidisperse porosity pellets; diffusion and reaction.
