✦ Synopsis

Field-current identities for scalar mesons and the divergences of dilatation-like currents are exhibited in Lagrangian field theories. A possible relation between the algebraic structure of the energy-momentum tensor and the Gell-Mann-Oakes-Renner symmetry breaking mechanism is suggested. It is shown that beyond the pieces dominated by the I = 0 scalar mesons of a nonet, the trace 0 of the energy-momentum tensor must contain an extra ("tenth") piece or else m, = m, .
