We read with interest the article "Methods for Digital Video Recording, Storage, and Communication of Movement Disorders," by Jog and Grantier. 1 Many options for creating digital video are discussed, and the authors address the important issue of preserving "legacy" recordings. One of the most important issues that concerns "senior" movement disorders specialists is how to adapt videotape accumulated during the previous years of their career for editing on a computer with modern software. Jog and Grantier describe hardware designed to capture video originally recorded as analog videotape.
We agree that high-end hardware and software systems are not necessary for the relatively straightforward video production needs of most movement disorders clinics. We would like to add a simpler and less costly alternative to the products mentioned in the article. The Dazzle model DV-80 (Dazzle, Fremont, CA; list price $80; online at http://www.dazzle.com) is an external video capture device that does not require installation inside the computer, as do the products described in the article. The interface is via the USB connector, which does require a computer manufactured in the past 2 or 3 years and equipped with Windows 98 or later. How-
