Abstract

This study presents a method for simulating digital control systems using spreadsheets. This method consists of simulating as basic blocks: a delay, a first order transfer function, and a second order transfer function. Any transfer function in the z domain can be obtained by connecting a number of these blocks with appropriate coefficients. This simulation allows the determination of the time response of a sampled data system without solving equations. The simulation interface is customized using graphics and toolbars. The method is suitable for educational environments. Β© 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
