โฆ Synopsis
The diffusivity of Na in liquid metals was determined by using the cell Na/Na-[3"-alumina/ /Sn(Na), by an equilibration technique and a transient technique. Using the equilibration technique, it was established that between 490 and 730 K the diffusivity can be given by O= 4.4(ยฑO.5) x IO-4 exp(-Q / RT) cm2 / sec
where Q = 3900 cal/mole. From the transient technique, the calculated diffusivity obtained, assuming the only overpotential to be the concentration overpotential, was found to be higher than through the equilibration method. The difference between these two methods became smaller as the temperature was increased, indicating that interracial or electron-transfer overpotential was present to a significant degree at lower temperatures.
