The rate of diffusion of molecular oxygen into pitch was determined by monitoring the effect of paramagnetic oxygen on the relaxation behavior of the electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) signals from the naturally-occurring free radicals in pitch. The materials investigated included mesophase pitch
