✦ Synopsis


The effect of diffusion on excitation energy transfer in a dye pair (acriflavine to rhodamine 6G) in methanol has been investigated by donor-decay-curve analysis. From 300 to 200 K, for low acceptor concentration the donor fluorescence decay is exponential. The rapid energy transfer has been attributed to fast donor-donor transport due to translational diffusion of donor molecules. At higher acceptor concentrations, direct donor-acceptor transfer through the Fiirster mechanism takes place. At 80 K, the donor decay data follow a Fiirster function at all acceptor concentrations.
