Expcrunents usmg dlffuslon controlled electrolysis have been carried out m flow and m non-flow sltuatlons for the measurement of dlffustvltles m pure soluttons and m soluttons with polymenc additives The non-flow cell was found to be unrehable and tune consumrng in operation and was not capable of yleldmg data on the effect of shear rate upon the dlffuslvlty The flow system gave results for pure solutions which were m agreement with previously published mformatlon and no effect of shear rate upon dlffuslvlty was observed With polymenc additives some solutions showed a slgmficant decrease m dlffuslvlty as the shear rate increased Although more data are reamred to auantlfv this effect the results obtamed do show the danger of using the common assumption of constant 9,u/T for such solutions
