✦ Synopsis
The partial differential equation: is solved for the first ten sets of eigenvalues and coefficients.
The method of Davidson who showed that such a solution may be applied to laminar flow over a sphere, is extended to other geometries. It is found that a shape derived from a cycloid yields simpler equations describing the assumed flow pattern. than the corresponding equations for a sphere.
Experimental results are quoted which fall outside the range of applicability of the simpler penetration theory, and which show good agreement with the solution of the above equation for a sphere.
