## Abstract A diffraction problem is solved for a plane E‐ or H‐polarized wave incident on a chiral layer placed over a reflecting grating of rectangular grooves cut in a perfectly conducting metal plane. The approach uses decomposition and generalized scattering matrix methods. The phenomenon of q
