✦ Synopsis

The two stereoisomers (E and Z) of tertiary butyl-2-hydroxyimino-3-oxobutyrate, and of its methyl ether and ethyl ether oximes, are separated by gas chromatography and characterized by electron impact ionization (EI) and chemical ionization (CI). The isomeric (E and Z) hydroxy oximes, methyl ether and ethyl ether oximes can be distinguished by the distinct differences observed in both the EI and CI spectra. The fragmentation mechanisms of these isomers are elucidated with the aid of linked-scan and accurate mass measurement techniques.
