✦ Synopsis
Differential scanning calorimetric studies have been made of some pure phosphatidyl glycerol (PG) lipid-water systems. The influence of pH, salt concentration and the monovalent cations (Na ÷, K + and NH, ÷) upon the lipid phase transitions have been studied. The calorimetric data is compared with corresponding monolayer data on related systems. The kinetics of the formation of a metastable crystalline phase observed with a PG/ealcium complex at a ratio of two lipid molecules for each Ca 2÷ ion are described.
