β¦ Synopsis
In vitro effects of six dibenzyltin dichloride (A-series) and another six dibenzyltin diisothiocyanate (Bseries) complexes on Na Ψ /K Ψ -ATPase were studied. The rat brain synaptic membranes were prepared and significant ATPase inhibition was observed with all the complexes in a dose-dependent manner. The order of potency on Na Ψ /K Ψ -ATPase activity of the chloride complexes was found to be higher than that of the isothiocyanate complexes. The ic 50 values range from 64 M to 252 M for the chloride complexes and from 132 M to 399 M for the isothiocyanate complexes. A structure-activity relationship could be derived for the chloride complexes.

We studied effects of calmodulin antagonists on osteoclastic activity and calmodulin-dependent HCl transport. The results were compared to effects on the calmodulin-dependent phosphodiesterase and antagonistcalmodulin binding affinity. Avian osteoclast degradation of labeled bone was inhibited ,40%
The teleosts Trematomus bernacchii thrive in southern oceanic waters with temperatures below 0 degrees C. These fish have serum osmolalities almost double those found in fish of temperate waters, thereby lowering their serum's freezing point and the energy needed for ionic homeostasis. Upon warm acc
The European sea bass, Dicentrarchus labrax, tolerates salinities ranging from freshwater (FW) to hypersaline conditions. In two experiments, we analysed changes in plasma ions, muscle water content (MWC), gill Na+,K(+)-ATPase activity, and alpha-subunit mRNA expression during the course of acclimat
Bcl-2 overexpression in transfected PW cells is associated with inhibition of radiation-induced programmed cell death (PCD). We have previously reported that there is a relationship between inhibition of radiation-induced PCD and membrane hyperpolarization in these cells. In this article, we report
Changes in gill Na + K + ATPase activity were examined following the transfer of brook charr (Salvelinus fontinalis) from fresh water (FW) to seawater (SW). Gonadal development was altered at the hatching stage using three doses of ionizing radiation (IR): 6.2, 7.8, and 11.4 Gray (Gy). A non-irradia
