โœฆ Synopsis

Smectic B phases are divided into three subgoups, Bt , Ba, and Ba. The characteristics of these subgoups are as follows. Br: optirdly cniasial, molecules perpendicular to smcctic planes, and order within the layers. Ba: optically biaxial, molecules tilted with respect to planes, order within the layers, and possibly also order between the layers. Ba: optically uniaxial, molecules apparently tilted with respect to planes, and layers probably free to rotate on each
