✦ Synopsis

effective excitation source, and stability can be quickly reached in the FDTD calculation. 2. The effects of the unabsorbed frequency components, which often require a sufficiently large computation region to decay the evanescent mode, can be eliminated. 3. The new source can be designed more conveniently and directly than the Gaussian pulse source for a specific FDTD numerical modeling.

Numerical results for a rectangular waveguide containing a dielectric layer are given, compared with the data of the Gaussian impulse excitation that have been published. It demonstrates the validity and efficiency of the new bandpass source. In the examples, a half memory requirement and the CPU time have been saved by using the new bandpass source scheme compared with the GPE. REFERENCES 1. N. I.
