✦ Synopsis
The complex dielectric permittivity of liquid dipropylsulfoxide (DPSO) has been measured at frequencies between 100 MHz and 20 GHz at four temperatures between 298.15 K and 328.15 K. The recorded spectra are well described by the Cole-Davidson spectral function, which presumes an unsymmetrical relaxation time distribution. In addition to the spectral parameters of this relaxation time distribution we have calculated the Kirkwood correlation factor and the activation energy of molecular reorientation of DPSO. Comparison with recently published data for the lower homologues, dimethylsulfoxide and diethylsulfoxide, indicate that selfassociation in DPSO is stronger than in the lower homologues.
